Bring with you your insurance card, photo ID, and a current list of any medications you are currently taking.

A visit to the gynaecologist is suggested for annual screening and any time you have concerns about symptoms such as pelvic, vulvar, and vaginal pain or abnormal bleeding from the uterus. Ideally, a girl should have her first visit between 13-15 years of age. Women over 21 years old should visit once a year for an annual exam, other tests are conducted based on your history and symptoms.

The 2 main forms of temporary contraception are pills and intrauterine devices, that can include injections, implants, diaphragms, patches, caps and condoms. The permanent form, is surgery in males and females, known as ‘Sterilisation’.

A Pap smear or pap test is used to screen for cervical cancer. Recommended to start testing at 21 years of age, this test can then be repeated every 3 years up to 65 years of age. Detecting cervical cancer early gives you a better chance at a cure and halting the cancer. It can also detect changes in your cervical cells that suggest cancer may develop in the future.
